Carol Pearson and Hugh Marr's guidebook interprets the results of the Pearson-Marr Archetype Indicator test. It brings Jung's archetypes and psychological types to life!

An archetype is “a universal set of roles, situations, and themes that are recognizable to everyone,” says Carol Pearson and Hugh Marr in What Story Are You Living? Archetypes are similar to psychological types. They're how we live our lives: our common stories in the world have similar themes, characters, and plots. Jung’s archetypes are the foundation of this workbook and the Pearson-Marr Archetype Indicator.

A great example of an archetype is a love story in movies, books, TV shows or even real life. Though every love story is different, the basic underlying theme or deep pattern is the same. Another example is the “caregiver” personality – someone who instinctively nurtures and cares for others. Archetypes are recognizable ways of being in the world, no matter which country you live in.

Why Archetypes Are Important

“When we understand the stories and recognize their universality, we can connect with each other at deeper and more conscious levels, using the archetypal stories as the foundation.” Carol Pearson and Hugh Marr believe that understanding archetypes can help you understand people and relationships – and lead to better connections with friends and family.

Knowing your archetypes can move you toward harmony and success, and help you break free of destructive patterns – or ruts – in your life.

Types of Archetypes

To determine your dominant archetype, take the Pearson-Marr Archetype Indicator Instrument test in What Story Are You Living? It comes with an easy-to-use scoring sheet and informative results; at the end of the test you’ll learn not only about your personality traits but also your way of relating in the world.

Pearson and Marr include both archetype gifts and archetype pitfalls, which provide a balanced perspective of your personality and way of relating in the world. The 12 archetypes range from Warrior to Jestor, and are accompanied by mythical stories.

What Story Are You Living?
