Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) symptoms include anxiety, irritability, mood swings, appetite changes, weight gain, breast tenderness, depression, crying spells, headaches, fatigue, insomnia, muscle pain and bloating.

The chasteberry in particular is said to relieve feelings of depression, irritability and bloating.

Ecco Bella is an American company that sells the Women's Wonder Bar, which is similar to the PMS Support Chocolate Bar (perhaps a more marketable name is in order?). This PMS-relieving chocolate bar contains chasteberry, flaxseed and rose essential oil.

Research hasn't been offered to support the claims of these natural health supplement companies – but it doesn't matter. If you try the special gourmet chocolate bars and find PMS relief, then you have all the information you need.

Natural remedies for PMS:

  • Get lots of sleep.
  • Avoid caffeine, alcohol, and heavy meals.
  • Eat fruits, veggies and whole grains.
  • Take a vitamin and mineral supplement every day.
  • Avoid salty, deep fried foods.
  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Reduce stress with exercise, meditation, long walks, or bubble baths.

Natural health supplements for PMS:

  • Black cohosh, raspberry leaf, ginger, evening primrose oil, dandelion, and chasteberry are said to relieve pms symptoms (but there is little scientific evidence that these natural botanicals are effective).
  • Vitamin E may be a PMS remedy because it reduces the hormones that cause cramps and breast tenderness.
  • Calcium could reduce the physical and psychological symptoms of PMS.
  • Magnesium may reduce bloating, breast tenderness, and fluid retention in women with severe PMS symptoms.

The trick is to experiement with different possibilities until you find what works for you. If you're a man whose partner needs PMS relief, consider gourmet chocolate gift baskets or luxury chocolate bars. Even if they're not effective in relieving her PMS symptoms, you get the Brownie points!
